The project Biofattoria sociale Badilet is an initiative of Cantiere della Provvidenza - SPA, 

a social enterprise founded in 2013 with headquarters in Belluno, Italy.

 

The main idea behind the project is to start-up and develop a model of social and organic

farm that could be used by other farms in the region to diversify their activities.

 

 In recent years Social Farming has come to the attention of a growing number of people as it 

represents an alternative model of generative welfare in rural areas by delivering integrated 

social services to the local community for individual health and well-being. 

 

The term itself is often used interchangeably with other concepts such as ‘care farming’, ‘farming for health’ or ‘green care’.While ‘green care’ activities  may open possibilities for enhancing some other functions on the farm, such as landscape management, supporting biodiversity, animal 

welfare, etc.,within the discourse of public health, Social Farming is seen an innovative way to 

provide a positive environment for health restoration, care  and protection. Social Farming

is also contributing to social cohesion and inclusion by offering meaningful and appropriate 

work opportunities for vulnerable and disadvantage people, as well as a sense of belonging.

 

The project, which started in spring 2016, is founded on the principles of sustainable agriculture, new social economy and local development. 

 

Phase 1 (2016/17) will be dedicated to planning the various activities, regenerating some of  the buildings, making farming experiments, networking with the local community, building our team capacity and raising funds. The project is self-supported and started thanks to the personal contribution of our members.
